Seafood Feast 2024

Seafood Feast 2024

England’s Seafood Feast is making a return to the picturesque shores of the English Riviera this September to celebrate world-renowned local seafood. Set against the backdrop of the famous Brixham fish market and its coastal neighbours, Paignton and Torquay, the culinary event promises an unforgettable experience for food enthusiasts and adventurers.

From September 27, to October 13, the English Riviera will be hosting more than 30 events, overnight stays and special menus across the region. With a focus on locally caught seafood, visitors will have the opportunity to broaden their horizons with over 40 varieties of seafood prepared by top chefs and culinary experts.

Among the highlights of this year’s Feast are foraging expeditions, masterclasses led by renowned chefs, a seven-course tasting menu from seven different chefs, a sizzling barbecue by the beach, and a vineyard tour paired with a delicious seafood meal.

For those with adventurous spirits, there is the unique experience of a sea-swim followed by a rejuvenating sauna session and a sumptuous seafood dinner. Pop-ups, takeovers and restaurants featuring award-winning dishes from the winners of the National Fish and Chip Awards 2024 will also be in the area and guests can also savour a meal inspired by the favourite seafood dishes of iconic local author and national treasure, Agatha Christie.

Visitors can dine in over 40 different eateries across Brixham, Paignton, and Torquay, each offering its unique twist on fresh, locally sourced seafood. Meet the ‘Faces of the Feast’ and immerse yourself in their captivating stories, from the thrilling tales of fishers at sea to the culinary artistry and passion of talented chefs. And for those travelling with furry companions, fear not – seafood options will even be available for dogs during the Seadogs at Shoreline event.

“England’s Seafood FEAST is a feast for all the senses,” says Kelly Widley, who is in charge of putting the programme together. “Our goal is to educate and encourage visitors to explore the rich culinary heritage of our coastal communities while enjoying the freshest British seafood imaginable in a really fun way.

“In The English Riviera, we believe in offering something for everyone,” adds Kelly. “That is why we’ve curated an eclectic mix of events, ensuring there’s always something exciting happening across the 17-day event.”

This isn’t a conventional festival with a big marquee – instead you can enjoy a whole range of things to eat and do at venues across Brixham, Paignton and Torquay.

Seafood to order

Of course a key part of England’s Seafood FEAST is the opportunity to eat lots and lots of world-class fish.  Our best seafood restaurants offer an array of set menus and events to tantalise your taste buds, all featuring Brixham seafood. There are cookery workshops, wine tastings and coastal foraging. You will be able to choose from a host of unique events, from morning til night if you so wish!  So whether your taste is for fish and chips overlooking the sea, or a seafood tasting menu, we’ve got it covered.

And so much more

Of course you don’t need to wait until then to enjoy England’s Seafood Coast. You could take a trip on a heritage sailing trawler, go kayaking and paddle boarding, or take a trip on the steam train with its stunning views of the coast. Perhaps you’ll decide to see how early human species made the most of shellfish at Kents Cavern. You might decide to go fishing or wild swimming.  Or maybe you’ll take a trip to Berry Head to take in the spectacular view across Torbay and watch the guillemots as they go off to fish. You’re spoilt for choice.

The programme

The Feast programme is being added to regularly, so keep an eye on the website for new events and follow England’s Seafood FEAST on social media:

New Brixham Seafood Festival

New Brixham Seafood Festival

Some of the biggest names in cooking and seafood will be in Brixham in May 2020 for the port’s first Seafood Festival. Street stalls, live music and a lavish seafood feast raising money for local charities will be part of the new event, which will be run alongside the existing BrixFest celebrations in the town.

The festival will be held on Sunday, May 24, and is being backed by chef and Rockfish restaurateur Mitch Tonks, a long-term supporter of BrixFest.

At the launch, organisers said they aimed to stage an event that included local people as well as drawing visitors and trade to the town.

Festival spokesman Sophie Bower said: “Brixham is the most important fishing town in England with the busiest fish market in the country. Brixham pioneered the fishing method of beam trawling, which eventually spread around the world, and its location means its fishing fleet enjoys a diverse catch of some of the best seafood in the world.”

On May 24 the quayside will be lined with seafood stalls from oyster farmers, fish smokers, mussel growers, fish merchants, crab pickers and fish filleters.

Local chefs and restaurants will showcase their produce and show off their skills. The highlight of the day will be a long seafood lunch under the old fish market.

The festival will be free to enter, while the seafood feast will be ticket-only, with all profits donated to local causes.

Mrs Bower went on: “Mitch and the committee are dedicated to staying true to the ethos of BrixFest and involving the whole community.

“Local cafes, bistros and restaurants choosing to offer festival seafood specials will be promoted and the whole festival from the opening ceremony on Saturday to children’s day on the Monday will be themed around celebrating seafood and our fishing heritage.”

Further details and the chance to bid for the first seafood feast tickets will be announced at the official seafood festival launch at Rockfish Brixham on February 18.

The evening, hosted by Mitch Tonks and the team at Rockfish, will be a festival fundraiser. Call 07566 853186 for ticket details.
