The former Fore Seasons cafe on Fore Street has been transformed into a taste bud-tantalising chocolate emporium and tea rooms. Iain and Tracy Clarke have taken over the premises, reinventing the business as Ella’s Chocolate Emporium & Tea Rooms.

Iain and Tracy have carried out a complete refurbishment programme and now offer a bright and delightful environment where people can enjoy beautiful handmade chocolate experiences, cakes and savoury items.

Tracy, who has an extensive corporate background, always loved to bake with her mum Ella – hence the name – and has spent the last six years researching the art of Chocolatiering in Europe, particularly in Belgium – the home of chocolate.

Iain trained as chef before moving into IT. It was Iain’s decision in 2016 to retire that ignited the spark in Tracy to take the plunge and open their first business in Brixham: Chocella on Middle Street.

Chocella and now Ella’s have put an end to Iain’s thoughts of taking life a little easier. Chocella has gone from strength to strength requiring Tracy and Iain to move from Middle Street to larger premises on Fore Street enabling them to expand their menu and seating.

Ella’s offers breakfasts – breakfast rolls, chocolate porridge, breakfast smoothies amongst other items – most are available to take away and a delicious chocolate breakfast with pastry treats can be pre-booked.

Toasties, sandwiches, tea cakes and cheese, plain, fruit and even chocolate scones are also proving a huge hit with locals and visitors.

Homemade cakes including lemon drizzle, Victoria sponges, fruit cake and chocolate brownies are also served. Afternoon teas with a chocolate twist can be booked, hot and cold drinks are available including a unicorn shake, and there is even a chocolate soup served with a ginger finger to try.
