Churston Roadworks

We have agreed with contractor Wales & West Utilities to postpone the second phase of their gas pipe replacement works on Dartmouth Road. Following completion of the first phase of the works, engineering teams will be leaving the site today and we aim to have resurfacing works (to allow the road to fully reopen) complete by Wednesday 23 September – meaning the remaining second phase of the gas works will be paused until October half term.

Working for Brixham

Brixham Chamber of Commerce is an independent organisation which promotes and protects the interests of businesses in Brixham. Founded in 1923, we provide organisations with practical support, useful connections and representation in local, regional and national government. By number of members, we are the third largest Chamber in Devon and as an associate of Devon Chamber of Commerce, we are part of The British Chambers of Commerce network. We also have representation on the Executive of the Torbay Business Forum and are a founding partner of the Torbay Business and Chambers Network.

We are a not-for-profit organisation. All proceeds we generate go towards resources for our members or to promote and support the community within Brixham. We regularly support local festivals, events and community groups and give time and resources to intitiatives to improve the general environment for residents and visitors.

Membership is open to individuals and organisations of all sizes and all sectors with
business interests in Brixham. We are a friendly and inclusive group and at just £35 per year, membership represents excellent value for money.

ROADWORKS UPDATE

The following release had just been published. This solution is thanks to the hard work of the council including Adam Billings Cllr for Churston and the highways team who have been negotating with wales and west during the week.

In agreement with Torbay Council we have agreed to postpone our works along Dartmouth Road until October half term. This is due to unforeseen limitations to pedestrian access on the footway between Greenway Road and Manor Vale Road. Undertaking the works during the half term period will also help us to progress more quickly on this project and to ease local concerns.

Our plan is to clear the site on Dartmouth Road by Wednesday 23 September and lift the road closures on Manor Vale Road and Warborough Road.

We will return to commence work on Dartmouth Road from 4pm on 23 October and we are doubling our efforts to compete the work on 1 November, which is earlier than previously scheduled.

Greenway Road and Warborough Road will also be closed from 4pm on 23 October to 1 November so we can complete our works as safely and quickly as possible.

The traffic management plan for our works from 23 October to 1 November is as follows:

• Rolling two-way traffic lights will be in place on Dartmouth Road between Manor Vale Road and Greenway Road
• Road closures on Greenway Road and Warborough Road.
• Footpath closure on Dartmouth Road, Pedestrian diversion route via Manor Vale Road and Greenway Road.
• During this phase of work, traffic lights will be manned 12 hours a day, seven days a week

We will be issuing a traffic bulletin this afternoon and updating our social media channels. I understand that Torbay Council will also be communicating about these works being delayed. ...
